On behalf of the staff and faculty of the Master of Library and Information Science program at the University of Maryland, we would like to welcome all of our new and returning students to the 2016-2017 academic year!
The students starting this fall are the first to begin the program under its new name of MLIS – this name change reflects the amazing range of careers that can be pursued with the degree. We are currently working on a number of new curricular additions to the MLIS program related to the many career opportunities in the field. These new course and specializations will be rolled out through the course of this academic year. We will keep you posted as these new academic options become available!
We also will be letting you know about a large number of career development and networking events this fall, as well as opportunities to hear from important speakers in the field. Keep an eye out for the “Fall Career Focus Events” blog post later this week!
If you are interested in issues of diversity, inclusion, rights, and social justice as they relate to information, we will be hosting the 2016 Conference of Inclusion and Diversity in Library & information Science (CIDLIS) on October 20 and 21. This conference brings together hundreds of professionals, educators, and researchers from around the world to share new ideas and best practices in making institutions and information more inclusive. It’s only annual diversity conference in the field, it’s here on campus, and it’s free. You can register at: http://go.umd.edu/CIDLIS2016
It promises to be a busy and exciting year in the MLIS program, and we are delighted to be getting started. As always, let us know if there is any way we can be of help as you work toward your MLIS degree!
