Surviving Crunch Time

The end of the semester is here, and crunch time is most certainly upon us! But don’t let this time of year drive you crazy. As you finish up your course projects and study for finals, be sure to take some time out for yourself to relax and refocus. Also check out one of the many end-of-semester events happening at the iSchool and on campus over the next couple of weeks.

iSchool Winter Potluck sponsored by iDiversity and SAM
December 6th (3-5:30pm) – 4th Floor Student Lounge, Hornbake South

Take a much deserved study break, and join your fellow iSchoolers at this year’s winter potluck. ALL are invited, so be sure to stop by! Please bring a dish to share that is special to you. Beverages and a meat and cheese tray will be provided, but be sure to also bring a treat to share.

Happy Hour with ACRL-MD and DEAL
December 6th (6pm-until the fun stops) – Franklin’s Brewery, 5121 Baltimore Ave, Hyattsville

Celebrate the end of the semester by relaxing with some awesome people and good conversation at Franklin’s this Thursday. Sponsored by ACRL of Maryland and the Development of Emerging & Aspiring Librarians (DEAL), this event is a great time to mix and mingle with colleagues in the library field. Fall Study Break with Graduate Study Life
December 6th (9am-4pm) – Graduate Student Lounge, 1121 The Stamp

Graduate Student Life wants to help you take a break from your studies! Enjoy one of many goodies they will be providing throughout the day this Thursday, December 6th. The day starts out with free breakfast at 9am, followed by chair massages at 10am. Free snacks and giveaways will be available all day including Grad Terp t-shirts, UMD gear, and more. The first 50 graduate students to show they are following @GradStudentLif1 on Twitter will receive a free “I <3 Grad Terps” travel mug.

The ABCs of Relaxation
December 4th (4-6pm) – Multipurpose Room, Annapolis Hall

Return to your childhood and take some time to just play at this stress-relieving event. Enjoy board games and crafting with free cookies, milk, and hot chocolate. Located in the multipurpose room of Annapolis Hall, next door to the University Chapel.

Puppy Palooza!
December 10th (11am–1pm) – Grand Ballroom, The Stamp

This now regular semester-end tradition is back next Monday, and it’s certainly not an event to miss! What better way to relieve stress than to play with one of the many friendly puppies eagerly awaiting your arrival? Puppy Palooza kicks off a week-long set of events at the Stamp that will include free giveaways. Stay connected with the Stamp on Twitter and Facebook to learn more.

Meditation Sessions
Tuesdays (6-7pm) at Epply Recreation Center
Wednesdays (12-1pm and 5-6pm) at Health Center
Thursdays (5-6pm) at the Health Center

Every week, the Health Center offers many opportunities for students to participate in meditation sessions completely free of charge. Not able to make it to a session? Meditate right now with Edie Anderson via her meditation podcast that takes you through a breathing exercise meant to help you feel more calm and relaxed.

Labyrinth Walks
December 11th (9am – 12pm) and December 12th, 13th, 14th (4:30-6:30pm)

Visit one of the most beautiful and peaceful spots on campus this December, and take part in one of several special labyrinth walks available at the Garden of Reflection and Remembrance next to Memorial Chapel. Enjoy free hot chocolate at the Winter Labyrinth Walk on the morning of December 11th, or check out the Sunset Solstice Labyrinth Walk, a candlelit experience on December 12th, 13th, and 14th from 4:30-6:30pm.

McKeldin Library’s Survive Finals Week 2012
December 12th – 19th

While McKeldin Library has always been a great place to study, this year it is also the place to be for many stress-busting activities sure to help anyone make it through finals week. Opportunities include free Zumba, self-guided meditation, prize giveaways and free pizza and soda. Check out their Facebook event page to learn more.
