Public Services Librarians at the University of South Carolina Upstate – Spartanburg, NC

The University of South Carolina Upstate has several openings for Public Services Librarians. These are faculty (non-tenure track) positions in a dynamic, growing university.

Public Services Librarians teach information literacy sessions in Composition and University 101 classes as well as serve as liaisons to various academic departments. Each position will have the opportunity to teach the Library’s 3-credit hour course: LIBR201 – Strategies for Information Discovery, mostly taught online or in classrooms with multiple technologies, such as Promethean Boards, Sharp Aquos Boards, Document Cameras, and zero-client computers. Public Services Librarians staff a busy reference desk for multiple hours per week that includes face-to-face, chat, text, and telephone services. There will be evening and weekend rotations. Special projects and committees will be assigned as they develop. There are no supervisory responsibilities. Hours differ for summer sessions, holidays, and during breaks.

Required: An ALA accredited MLS. Candidates should be capable of and comfortable with teaching using multiple instructional technologies such as Promethean Boards, Sharp Aquos Boards, Document Cameras, tablets, and zero-client computers; ability to effectively manage simultaneous resources and high volumes of face-to-face, phone, chat and text service interactions. Knowledge of PCs, mobile devices, and attending software. Knowledge of print and electronic resources. Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff and others. Excellent oral and written skills. Strong commitment to student-centered services. Successful background check is required.

Preferred: Undergraduate degree or experience in mathematics, instructional design, science, or medically-related field. Ability to create digital instructional materials. Proficiency in using MAC’s as well as PC’s.
