Public Policy Associate for the American Library Association – Washington, DC

The American Library Association (ALA) is seeking a full-time government relations professional to join its public policy team in the ALA Washington Office. ALA is the foremost national association for libraries and information centers in the world, delivering pragmatic solutions to pressing issues such as expanding economic opportunity, advancing education and learning in the global economy, as well as strengthening the public interest in information policy issues such as telecommunications, copyright, access to government information, cybersecurity, privacy and free speech. This is a new position for the Public Policy and Advocacy unit. This position tracks and analyzes congressional, federal, and legal proposals related to library concerns, and provides research and outreach assistance to the program staff of the ALA Washington Office.

Activities will range from engaging library advocates and supporting lobbying meetings to conducting background research and preparing summaries in varied content areas. Incumbent also provides limited technology assistance on preparing presentations, updating webpages, and other comparable activities.

COMPENSATION: Negotiable from the 40s; based on relevant experience. ALA has an excellent benefit package that includes medical, dental, generous paid vacation and retirement annuity.
