IMPORTANT: College Park Metro Closure

Please note the following communication from UMD Department of Transportation Services.
WMATA recently announced that SafeTrack Surge #14 will include the complete closure of the College Park Metro Station from Saturday, April 15 through Saturday, April 29.
“Free shuttle buses will run between Greenbelt and Prince George’s Plaza with an intermediate stop at College Park. Green Line trains will run close to regular service elsewhere on the line, between Prince George’s Plaza and Branch Ave, every 6 to 8 minutes during rush hours.”
To help mitigate the inconvenience to the UMD community, DOTS is providing the following services:
Offering a Metro Closure Parking Permit
DOTS will offer UMD faculty, staff and students affected by SafeTrack work the option to purchase a Metro Closure Parking Permit.
  • The permit cost is $5 per day or $50 for the closure period (April 15 – April 29).
  • With this permit, students will be able to park in Lots 4 or 6.
  • Faculty and staff will be able to park in Lots K, P, U, V, X, XX1, Z or any lot on campus that begins with a number.
  • The permit must be purchased in person at the DOTS office in Regents Drive Garage, Monday – Friday, 8:15am – 4:00pm.
  • Permits are only valid (April 15-29) and may not be returned or refunded so please plan accordingly.
  • We are working to have permits available for purchase beginning Monday, April 10. Please visit the DOTS website to confirm availability.  Updates will be posted on the homepage under Parking Updates.
Running Special Metro Express Shuttle-UM Service from Prince George’s Plaza Metro Station
Shuttle-UM buses will run between campus and Prince George’s Plaza Metro Station weekdays from 7:00am through 8:00pm.
  • Buses will run approximately every 6 – 12 minutes, weekdays only, beginning Monday, April 17 through Friday, April 28, 7:00am – 8:00pm. Timing between buses may be adjusted according to demand.
  • This bus will stop at the following locations
    • Stamp Student Union (Slip)
    • Campus Drive and Library Lane
    • Art/Sociology Building
    • Campus Drive at Lot 3
    • Prince George’s Plaza Metro Station Bus Bay C
    • Campus Drive at UMUC Lot 19
    • University Methodist Church
    • Anne Arundel Hall
    • Dorchester Hall
  • Special Metro Express Shuttle-UM Route Map
  • To access Metro outside of these service hours, passengers will need to take Shuttle-UM Route 104 to the College Park Metro Station and use WMATA’s free SafeTrack shuttle buses.
  • Route 104 will continue to operate during the College Park Metro Closure, but on reduced schedule, with buses running approximately every 14 minutes during the weekday. Please use NextBus for real-time arrival information.
Providing Bicycle Alternatives
  • mBike members can pick up a bike at the Greenbelt mBike Station, located outside the west exit of the Greenbelt Metro Station, and bike to campus in approximately 15 minutes. Click here for a bike route between the Greenbelt mBike station and campus.
  • Not a member but would like to use this option? UMD faculty, staff and students can get a free month-long mBike membership by emailing with your name and UID.
