Ever dreamed about roaming the halls of the Library of Congress, the largest library in the world? Wondered what it would be like to work at the world-renowned Smithsonian Institution? Or maybe pondered what treasures are buried in the National Archives? We can help with that. These are just a few of the institutions that offer field study opportunities for MLS students in the iSchool. Visit the brand new field study database to check out the more than 100 institutions that have partnered with the iSchool to provide field study placements. For complete contact information for each field study institution, simply sign in with your UMD ID and password. Once you’re signed in, you’ll also be able to sort and filter the field study listings using your own personal preferences in order to find the opportunity that is the best fit for you.
It’s never too early to start thinking about where you would like to complete your field study experience or to set-up a field study experience in addition the required course. The more real-world practical experience you have when you complete your MLS, the more marketable you’ll be. For more info about the MLS field study, visit the field study page on the iSchool website.
Stay tuned to blogMLS as we bring you “Notes from the Field,” a blog series guest written by current field study students where they’ll tell you all about where they are working this fall, what they’re learning, and how much fun they’re having.
