Communications & Event Management Graduate Assistant at the Office of International Affairs – College Park, MD

The Office of International Affairs (OIA) is seeking an enthusiastic graduate student for a nine-month assistantship to support communications and events for the Year of Immigration and other OIA initiatives. This position will report to and support OIA’s Communications Director in producing editorial and social media content, and working with partners from across campus to support Year of Immigration-related event programming and promotion. This is an exciting opportunity to expand your portfolio while working on a cross-cutting initiative that is bringing together expertise from across campus, and highlighting international faculty, staff and students as one of UMD’s greatest strengths.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Studying Communications, Journalism or related field.
  • Work with the Communications Director and an undergraduate Communications Intern to expand storytelling, messaging and outreach for the Year of Immigration and other OIA priority projects, including feature stories on and other campus websites, a regular newsletter, Q&As, event coverage and infographics.
  • Collaborate with academic partners from schools and units across the university to help move Year of Immigration event plans, promotion and logistics forward.
  • Assist with digital communications needs for OIA, including: working with graphic design students to publish content for the video wall in HJ Patterson’s Global Crossroads; helping the Communications Director to launch an Instagram account for OIA; and providing general support for Twitter and website publication.
