Our featured December graduate today is Deirdre Lunn. She completed the School Library specialization.
What made you decide to get an MLS?
My personal philosophy in life is to never stop learning. My love of reading started at a young age, and it was fostered by my parents and teachers. As reading is the foundation of learning, I want to bring that love of reading to children, and one of the best ways will be to provide them with quality literature as a school librarian. After I entered the program, I realized the importance of teaching students about information literacy, which will be one of the most important skills they can develop in our Google-centric society.
What was the most useful thing you learned or useful course you took while studying at the iSchool?
LBSC 690 Information Technology was incredibly helpful for me. Getting comfortable with a higher-level of technology was fantastic.
What advice do you have for current or future iSchool students?
Find an advisor or mentor librarian early – they can be so crucial in giving advice and helping you make professional contacts.
What are your plans after graduation?
I’m looking forward to working as a school librarian in one of the local area school systems.
