The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) is seeking a highly strategic, innovative, and articulate leader, who will advocate for important public policy issues facing its membership in the 21st century and will be a thought leader on the ways in which universities and other research institutions create, integrate, preserve, and disseminate knowledge. The new Director must be a persuasive champion of efforts to build sustainable models of scholarly communication and to sustain and enhance research library services in support of their institutional missions.
Since its founding in 1932, the ARL membership has grown to include 123 major research institutions. The Association’s members make up a large portion of the academic and research library marketplace, spending more than $1.4 billion every year on information resources and actively engaging in the development of new models of scholarly communications.
The Executive Director will be responsible for the administration of all ARL operations and programs and will be a transformative leader who can articulate the organization’s value proposition, build consensus and collaborations among key internal and external constituents, and work effectively with a Board to lead impactful change for the organization and the greater research community.
