STEM Research & Learning Librarian at Florida State University- Tallahassee, FL

The Florida State University (FSU) Libraries seek a STEM Research and Learning
Librarian to join a team of science librarians in transforming library support
of STEM research and scholarship on FSU’s main campus, at the College of
Engineering, and in research facilities that include the National High
Magnetic Field Laboratory, a world-class research facility of more than 700
employees and $30 million in annual grant funding.

Library and will report to the Director of STEM Libraries.

for STEM research and learning at FSU, working with colleagues in the
Libraries and the University. Responsibilities also include developing
instructional, assessment and research services for STEM faculty and students.

instructional support. The STEM Research and Learning Librarian will be based
in the Dirac Science Library and will report to the Director of STEM
Libraries.
Works with the Director of STEM Libraries and the Dirac Science Library team
to develop and provide new services and initiatives to support FSU’s STEM
population.
Provides a leadership role in supporting student and faculty research,
identifying emerging information technologies and trends and their application
in the STEM disciplines.
Assesses and evaluates the research, instructional, and programming needs and
preferences of STEM students and faculty.
Provides the full range of subject-specific library services to assigned
departments, including: collection development, research consultations,
subject-specific library instruction, assessment of Dirac Library services in
line with the FSU Libraries strategic plan, and in-person and virtual
reference to students and faculty in the STEM disciplines.
Assists STEM faculty in grant-related activities, identifying grant
opportunities, and providing services to fulfill grant requirements.
Collaborates with the Libraries’ Technology and Digital Scholarship Division
as well as FSU’s Office of Research and other university departments in
developing strategies to support data management in the sciences.
Keeps abreast with scholarly communication concepts and incorporates them into
outreach and instructional services.
Serves on Library and University committees, contributes to library
initiatives, and provides leadership for specific projects.
Contributes to state, regional, and national committees. Participates in
research, publication, and other professional and scholarly activities.
Flexibility to work some evening and weekend hours may be required.

Qualifications

MLS from an ALA-accredited program or an equivalent combination of relevant
advanced degree and experience.
Ability to provide research support to STEM disciplines; assess curricular and
research needs of assigned departments; and develop programs and services to
meet those needs.
Knowledge of information literacy, library instruction, reference services,
and research resources.
Interest in data literacy, open access, and scholarly communication.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work creatively, independently and collaboratively
with faculty, students, library staff and with people of diverse backgrounds.
Flexibility in adapting to evolving departmental and organizational priorities
and technological environments.

Preferred

MLS from an ALA-accredited program.
Degree in a science discipline or significant library experience supporting
STEM areas.
Experience in delivering library instruction, reference services, and
knowledge of research resources in the sciences.
Experience working with scientific data.
Experience with digital scholarship, data management, and scholarly
communications.
Record of scholarly publications and/or presentations.
Grant writing experience.
Experience in supporting sponsored research.
