The application period for the Ruth Fine Student Loan is open at http://www.dcla.org/page-1723277
The DC Library Association awards one Ruth Fine Memorial Student Loan of $6,000 each year in support of ALA-accredited graduate library/information science education. This interest-free loan, which the student financial aid committee forgives upon an awardee’s maintaining a 3.0 or better GPA for the twelve months following the award, has been made to students in the DC metro area since 2002 thanks to a bequest from Ms. Fine (a past president of DCLA).
Almost all past awardees ended up getting their loan forgiven [thus turning the loan into a scholarship].
.Applicants must be a member of DCLA [and it is not too late to become a member!]
The application process will be virtually the same as last year, so check out the Loan webpage at http://www.dcla.org/page-1723277
A couple of tips for applicants:
–make sure your DCLA membership is up to date. Student membership is only $5, although if you might attend any ALA-affiliated conference in the next year, the student membership bundle is a great deal instead.
— applicants don’t need to order an official letter from the registrar to verify school enrollment. Frankly, we’d rather see an attachment downloaded from the school’s registration website than have to wait for the letter to arrive in the mailbox (which we then will have to scan in anyway)!
